Much of doily's (aka Heather Leitner) past musical
life was clouded with bad taste but it seems that she is coming
around (after all, if you are reading this Broklyn Beats must excite
you on some level, no?) Aside from performing mundane record label
office work and coping with the noble injuries one might associate
with such work (paper cuts, carpel tunnel, bad stamp licking aftertaste,
sore ass and glazed eyes from sitting in front of the computer,
exercises in phone diplomacy ... ) doily has been working on her
own music, learning the wonders of gardening and bartending at a
NYC music venue.
Her debut 12" titled "Mattress of the Universe" was
released in September 2003 on Broklyn Beats. With it, she may confuse
the world at least a tiny bit with her chunky lo-fi breaks and eerie
melodies that chug along with reckless abandon. What the hell is
this sh*t?!? they might say. Maybe it's a reminder that the universe
is not always a soft place, especially with humans interfering in
every way we deem fitting. Really though, Broklyn is proud to finally
be releasing music from one of it's founders and we think some of
you out there will enjoy this one.
In the nascent stages of her electronic music dabblings,
doily had the honor of playing alongside some of the world's most
formidable sound furors such as DJ /rupture, I-Sound, DJ Scud, Hrvatski,
Noizecreator, Rotator, Doormouse, 1-Speed Bike, Donna Summer, Society
Suckers, and of course, label-mate Criterion to name a few. Having
been surrounded by such a talented group of people (ah-hem ... men
I mean) has certainly contributed to her expanding ear and appetite
for faster and harder breaks. We hope her appetite will keep growing...
Expect a full length from her in 2005 coming at you first as separate
12"s and then as a cd.

philosophical ramblings, plant questions or political rants is welcome
