MPLD (also spelled Implode) is the battle name of Gill Arno', graphic designer and visualist who began performing in NYC in 1998 with illbent improv collective Electrofetus. He went on to bring his slides and film cut-up projections, and laptop-generated visuals to many experimental music events and parties, as a member of the Broklyn Beats crew and with other entities including Soundlab, Ozone, Home Style Cooking and BlackKat. Gill considers his performing tools to be space, light, texture, rhythm and memetic particles, rather than any specific hardware or software. He likes to use an array of instruments, mixing together their output as well as working in collaboration with other artists and develop a dialogue with their different approaches and sensibilities.

In the residency at Broklyn Beats' Barreled events MPLD worked in a collaborative effort with mixed-media artist Enb (aka Ben Owen) and graphic designer Theres Wegmann.

As a graphic designer Gill has developed the "broken" visual identity of Broklyn Beats, designing most of the label's printed materials and providing the Broklyn photographs used throughout this website. When designing record covers, he often encourages the musicians themselves to contribute visual elements and to take part in the creative process.
