1-Speed Bike - "Droopy Butt Begone"
CD & 12" (Constellation) - His debut(t) 12"
on Constellation with a variety of percussive styles and the same
Bottleskup wit. $10
Aum CDR - A side project from various NYC illbient
live musicians including Huge Voodoo on tape manipulations and a
beautiful package of full-color images from Implode. - $12
Bakunin's Bum CD A long-lost surprise release
from a couple of years ago. This one a collaboration with our own
1-Speed Bike and Norman Nawrocki from Canada's Rhythm Activism.
It's beats, strings and political rage... A collaboration between
Canada's 2 best activist bands. Imagine 1-Speed Bike with live strings...
$12
Bottleskup Flenkenkenmike
12" (Toolbox) Three of 1-Speed Bike's coolest tracks from last
year's debut full-length on Broklyn Beats released on 12" in
Paris. Dubby techno with DJ appeal, listen to one track in our tunes
page. Limited to 300 copies $11
DJ /Rupture "Special Gunpowder"
CD (Tigerbeat 6) Many may have
seen or heard this already since it was quite high-profile at the
end of last year. Well, don't sleep - it's a great LP. You got your
breakcore, your reggae edge and some hip hop, but more than anything,
you have a folky, soul edge and some great musicianship. Yes, it's
an eclectic mix of songs with a wide range of collaborators (Sister
Nancy, Wayne Lonesome, Trinity, Kit Clayton, etc.) but there's definitely
a uniting thread woven into the whole fabric. $13
Donna Summer 12" (Sonig 35) Released a year ago
along with is LP for Sonig, this has been out-of-print since. Much
like that album this is well-produced DS pop madness, incorporating
ambient soundscapes, noisy breaks and big ol' rock riffs. More breakcore
than the LP which we like. Reminds us of his (sic) 7" for Broklyn.
$12
Donna Summer "This Needs to be Your Style"
12" LP (Toolbox) Originally released on London's Irritant label.
Arguably Jason Forrest's finest full-length of plundermania, we're
very happy to see it cut on wax for maximum obnoxious act-along behavior.
French import limited to 500 copies, 13 song LP (note: corners were
bent in overseas shipping, but vinyl plays great) $13
Drop the Lime "Dirty, Dirty, Dirty" 12"
(Ambush) New York newcomer drops the lime on us motherfuckers with
this one. I mean, sit down the first time you listen to it. Extremely
sliced-up whirlwind breaks that somehow make sense, thrown in with
plenty of singing from him and his friends and a pinch of electro.
The best Ambush in awhile! $11
**Drop the Lime "Shot
Shot Hearts" CD (Tigerbeat6) A long EP of the
newer DtL style, a reinvented pop, that's just as mental
as past efforts with an emphasis on lyrical songwriting.
Don't think there aren't wavering basslines and fast snare
work, but you'll be hard-pressed to call it breakcore. Original.
$10
End "The Sick Generation" CD (Hymen) Charles
Pierce gives a bunch of friends tracks to remix and throws in
a few of his own. Remixes by the likes of Foetus, Duranduranduran,
Jason Forrest, Messer Chups and more. End's noirish biker movie
vibes lend themselves well to remixing and make for a cohesive
remix project - I wanna see the movie... $12
End "The Sounds of Disaster" CD (Hymen) End's 2004
release and maybe his best take on 50's diesel-fueled breakcore incorporating
samples from biker movies, surf movies and spy movies into one long
rocket-propelled adventure into the night. Well executed and a lot
of fun. $12
Garth Vader/ Lobotomizer split 12" (KKtus Rec.) - This
12" was poorly mastered and about half of the tracks are unplayable
(treble and bass pushing the needle out of the groove.) It does, however
have the excellent "Pig Pop" from our "Brutal Police
Menace" CD and it plays nice and loud. The other tracks are cool
and in the same vein. The Lobotomizer side is straight evil hardcore.
- $7
**Les
Trolls "Les déviances funambulesques de la conscience
collective , ou la derniere ligne droite avant le virage...."
12" (Les Trolls) Nurgle and Trouble Clef visited NYC
a year ago and pressed this EP in Brooklyn to mark the experience.
These are 4 hard tek tracks with thick grooves, improvised live
instruments and a bit of MC work. One of the tracks appears on the
Broklyn CD and as a promo we're offering the 12" at a cheap
rate. It's wicked and limited to 500 on white vinyl. $6
Nettle "Firecamp Stories" remix CD (TheAgriculture)
Just as listenable as the original with more than enough gems to make
it worth dropping the money on. Rupture himself remixes 2 trax with
live instruments hinting at his new direction. Ove-Naxx, Leafcutter
John, Mehmet Irdal, Timeblind, Hrvatski, I/O, Donna Summer and more.
15 tracks, a great listen and dope graphix. $12
Nettle "Campfire Stories Remixes Pt. 3" 12"(The
Agriculture) Get it for Rupture's self-remix with live vocals and
strings from Aziz Arradi - shit kicks like New York was a city
in Algiers!... and tremendously uplifting and catchy. Hrvatski
does a sweet percussion job in his older rollin', drillin' birdstyle.
A Side's also a thick digidub bassline driven monster from Com.a
and Shiro the Goodman. Our favorite of the series and a strong
loud cut on the vinyl. $8
Nettle CD (TheAgriculture) -
Contains the Nettle track from "Brutal Police Menace"
as well as tracks from the out-of-print Soot #3 12" (including
DJ Scud's classic remix) and new cuts. Essential. A 21st century
romp through dub, noise, hip hop and glitch amalgamations. - $12
Nettle 2 x 12" - Same as above w/out the Scud track
- $14
**Zea "One
Bomb Fits All" remix 12" (Transformed Dreams) Dutch
2-piece Zea make electronic, melodic pop with buzzsaw guitars and
great melodies. Leave it to Melt Banana, 1-Speed Bike, Donna Summer
and Felix Kubin to twist these great songs their own way. Definitely
one of the best things out this year. $11
